LEE
ANN SEABURG PERRY
Sculptor LeeAnn Seaburg
Perry enhances the beauty of stone with minimalist carving, shaping
the stone to create just a hint of human form without destroying its
natural shape and texture, working in a sculotural tradition that can
be traced back to Michaelangelo. Her work displays a palpable love of
stone - its translucence, its striated depths and marbleized color.
She carves her stone with the traditional tolls of stone carvers:
chisel, hammers and rasps, with the addition of a small cutting wheel
and diamond sandpaper pads, creating textural patterns and highly
polished surface areas which enhance the natural form, much of which
is left untouched. Most of her works are small, exquisite pieces on
swivel bases allowing for placement in a number of intimate locations
in one's decor. (continued at the bottom)

Perry works
with a variety of stone, including marble, sandstone, soapstone,
alabaster and others, with marble being her favorite. For her marble
she travels to Danby, Vermont to personally ride deep into the earth
and hand pick blocks of marble, have them loaded into packing crates
and truck them back to her studio in Washington State, where they are
uncrated and exposed to the light for first time since the Middle
Cambrian period 600 million years ago.
Lee Ann
Seaburg studied sculpture at Lewis and Clark College in Oregon before
receiving her Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in New York
City. She exhibits her work throughout the Pacific northwest and Rocky
Mountain region.
